Happy Retirement River Song
Our dog River Song turns 12 this year. Over those 12 years
she has taught a lot of training classes. This week she graduated her last
puppy class. While River Song remains very active at home it has become clear
to us that she does not have the same enthusiasm for class that she used to.
In true retirement fashion we would like to share some
behind the scenes stories about River Song:
We adopted River Song on 31 March 2012. She came on a
transport and we picked her up at PetSmart in Concord. Before her arrival she reached
out to us and told us what her new name would be. She has always known what we
want before we say it. This has made her a great training dog as she quickly
learned the training script.
During Covid she stepped in to help Bonnie manage training
classes outside. She made this difficult time run smoothly.
We discovered she is an amazing Frisbee player; spinning and
twirling mid air to catch the Frisbee. We discovered her hip dysplasia early in
her life. We started her in physical
therapy to strengthen her hind leg muscles and she continues daily work outs to
keep her in shape.
When Beach came into our lives, she knew immediately that
this new puppy was hers. She even suggested we call her twinkie and she was
quite amused by this.
River Song will still make guest appearances in upcoming
classes and on Walks with Beach. Join us in wishing River Song happy retirement!
